Fresh Produce in Sheffield
Sheffield Wholesale Market is also known as the South Yorkshire Fresh Produce and Flower Centre.
Sheffield Wholesale Markets consist of 9 purpose built warehouses with several units ranging in size from 1,000 to 12,000 square feet.
The entire available space is around 80,000 square feet and approximately 50% is owned by private companies and 50% is leased to Sheffield City Council who then sub-lease to small wholesaling businesses.
The main use of Sheffield Wholesale Markets is for the wholesaling of fruit and vegetables, selling flowers and plants, florist requisites, meat, pies, pastries and cakes and packaging. Although this is a "Wholesale" market for traders, if individuals approach the traders personally they may sell their produce to them - it is at their discretion.
Produce arrives at the Parkway Market all through the night from continental Europe coming in through Hull or and from Lincolnshire and the market is at its busiest in the early hours of the morning when retail traders attend to buy produce for their own businesses.
There has been a shift in recent years with more and more on site businesses running their own fleet of delivery vehicles rather than customers coming on site to collect. There is shop on site
