As the days cool down and the nights seem to get a little longer, many of us turn to a more hearty meal to keep us warm and snug. 

So as the Autumn foods like casseroles, pies and crumbles start to appear on dinner tables around Sheffield, here are some of our favourite ingredients that you may want to add to your shopping list to ensure you're ready for some comfort food cooking....  

  1. Root veg - make some room as they come into season and stock up on parsnips, onions, pumpkins, butternut squash, beetroot, sweet potatoes and turnips. Perfect for soups, casseroles or simply roasted.
  2. Greens - add a splash of colour to your plate and get a vitamin boost from broccoli, leeks and watercress.
  3. Crumble fruits – it’s a great time for blackberries, plums, apples and pears - mixed up together or simply own their own - all taste perfect in crumbles!

You'll find all these ingredients in the markets, and don't forget whilst you're there to get all the meat, fish and shellfish, (and any other fresh produce) you may need to keep your fridge and cupboards fully stocked this Autumn!
